Corporate-Backed Crypto: New Coins With Big Companies Behind Them (2026)

⚠️ Not financial advice. Cryptoassets are high risk and largely unregulated in the UK. You could lose all the money you put in, and you’re unlikely to be protected by the Financial Ombudsman Service or FSCS. Many products below aren’t available to UK retail customers. Always check the FCA Warning List and the FCA Register before you buy anything.

Corporate-backed crypto: what’s actually new?

Most new coins are backed by nothing but hype. A growing group is different: banks, payment giants and bullion firms are putting their own names (and reserves) behind tokens. Here are the newest ones we could verify in 2026, what’s behind each and where it’s available.

What about Glencore?

We couldn’t find any coin issued or backed by Glencore itself. What does exist is Glencore xStock (GLENx), a token issued by Backed Assets (JE) Ltd that tracks Glencore shares 1:1. Glencore doesn’t issue it, holders don’t own the shares or get voting rights, and Kraken excludes UK retail customers (source). Separately, back in 2022 Glencore signed up to use Atomyze’s metals tokenisation platform for industrial trading, not a public coin (finews.com).

Live prices via CoinGecko. Tokens without public trading (e.g. JPM Coin, bank stablecoins) have no live price.

One to watch

A consortium of 21 banks, including Bank of America, Citi, Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank and UBS, plans a joint US dollar stablecoin, with launch targeted for the first half of 2027 (Major Matters).

How we picked

  • A named, established company (bank, payments firm or bullion group) issues the token or directly backs it.
  • It’s backed by something real: cash, bank deposits, vaulted gold, a fund or shares.
  • It launched, listed or expanded in 2026, and we could confirm that from a company announcement or a reputable tracker.
  • We left out meme coins, “partnership” claims we couldn’t verify and anything without a public source.

Things to know before you buy

  • “Backed” doesn’t mean “safe”. Stablecoins aim to hold their value, so you won’t see big gains. Gold and share tokens move with the underlying price.
  • Many aren’t open to UK retail investors. Several are limited to a single country, an app or institutions.
  • Token ≠ ownership. Share-tracking tokens like GLENx don’t give you the shares, voting rights or dividends paid in cash.
  • Watch for copycats. Scammers create fake tokens using big brand names. Only buy through the official channels linked above.
